Autumn Organisation Tips

As we enter the colder months, it’s time to say goodbye to cold drinks in the beer garden and hello to cosy evenings on the sofa. Statistically, we spend significantly more time in our homes throughout the winter months so, of course we want to make our home a place that we can enjoy.

  • Make wardrobe space for your autumn/winter clothing

Unfortunately, it’s unlikely that you’ll be needing your shorts and sandals over the next few months, so it’s time to box them up and make space for your jumpers, jackets, coats and boots.

In order to maximise your wardrobe space, we recommend that you start by purging your wardrobe. Get rid of anything you no longer wear, anything that doesn’t fit and anything that is looking a little bit worse for wear. Of course, where you can, donate your unwanted items to charity.

Once the purge is underway, we recommend grabbing some plastic storage boxes and storing your summer clothes away for winter. Using plastic storage boxes is one of the best ways to maximise wardrobe space, allowing you to keep your summer clothes under your bed, on top of the wardrobe or even in the loft.

  • Tackle the junk

As you’ll likely be spending more time indoors, you’ll want to make your home as clutter free as possible, to avoid constant mess and stress. So, take out those ‘junk drawers’ and get organised!

For the items you decide to keep, think about how you can store them more appropriately – using larger boxes to store away spare cables/wires and small boxes for stationary, spare keys and receipts.

  • Declutter your kitchen cupboards

This is a big one. For those living in the same home for many years, you probably won’t even know what you’ve got stored in the back of your kitchen cupboards (probably a lot of out of date food).

So, one by one, go through each cupboard/draw and throw away anything that’s out of date/no longer wanted/needed. Whilst the cupboards are empty, take the time to give them a thorough clean in order to really freshen up your kitchen.

In order to keep things clean and tidy for longer, grab some more small storage boxes and fill them accordingly – this is especially useful for organising snacks, baking ingredients and cleaning products.

  • Invest in storage space

Ever heard the saying ‘a place for everything, everything in its place’? Well, we couldn’t agree more.

Having a lot of items floating around the house can make it look cluttered and messy. Taking the time to find a home for these items and putting them away can make such a difference in making your home appear more presentable.

One of our biggest tips when it comes to storage is labelling. For each storage box you use, make a small label (or, just write on the box with a marker pen), so that you know exactly what it stored where, instantly.

Let’s get Autumn/Winter ready!
